Experience

I have had a passion for teaching since a young age. I was extremely fortunate to have numerous positive role models throughout my middle and high school years, ranging from teachers, to school counselors and coaches. I hope to use my passion for teaching to ignite a passion for learning in my students. Currently, I am an 8th grade Literature teaching at Crossroads Middle School North in South Brunswick, NJ. My Literature class focuses on the analysis and synthesis of fiction and nonfiction text, as well as the comprehension of our core novels. Currently, my core novels are To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie and Twelfth Night by Shakespeare. I incorporate multiple reading strategies, such as Kylene Beer’s “Signposts” as well as Reading Apprenticeship comprehension strategies as well. I also teach students how to respond to literature by composing short constructed responses, using textual evidence as support. In addition to analysis, students are also encouraged to synthesize their learning via text-to-text or text-to-world connections.

Hobbies

In addition to teaching, I am also a basketball coach. I have been playing basketball since I was 5, and have been coaching for the past six years. When I decided to not play basketball in college, I wanted to still be "a part" of the game, therefore I began coaching. The game taught me so many valuable skills and I like to infuse my coaching skills with my teaching skills to create a positive and supportive learning environment.
